Weekly Briefs subscription terms
Last updated: 3 October 2026
These terms apply when you use Weekly Briefs, free or paid. Please read the sections on fees and refunds before you subscribe.
Who we are
Weekly Briefs is published by Rated Counsel Limited, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 11812572) with its registered office at 5 Golden Mede, Waddesdon, HP18 0NG, United Kingdom. You can reach us at hello@ratedcounsel.com. “We” and “us” mean Rated Counsel Limited. “You” means the person who holds a Weekly Briefs account and, where you subscribe for an organisation, that organisation too.
These terms sit alongside our website terms of use, our privacy policy and our disclaimer. Where they differ, these terms apply to Weekly Briefs.
Who Weekly Briefs is for
Weekly Briefs is a professional service for people working in legal, risk, compliance and related roles. By subscribing you confirm that you are doing so for the purposes of your trade, business or profession.
If you are a consumer, you have rights under the law of England and Wales, including the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 and the Consumer Rights Act 2015. Nothing in these terms takes away rights that the law does not allow us to exclude.
Plans
- Reader is free. It includes what the plans page lists for Reader, and we may change or withdraw it at any time.
- Professional is a paid monthly subscription for one named person.
- Team is agreed with us directly and may be covered by a separate written agreement. Where it is not, these terms apply to each seat.
Your account
Each account belongs to one person and is accessed with links we email to that person. Keep your email account secure and do not forward sign-in links. One Professional subscription covers one named person: do not share your account, and do not let others use it. We may suspend an account that is being shared.
Fees and billing
- The price of Professional is shown on the plans page and at checkout. Any VAT or other tax that applies is shown at checkout.
- Fees are charged monthly in advance by card, through our payment provider, Stripe. Your first payment is taken when you subscribe, and your subscription then renews automatically each month on the same date until you cancel.
- If a payment fails, Stripe will try again and email you a link to update your card. If the fee is still unpaid, we may move your account back to Reader until it is paid.
- We may change the price. We will email you at least 30 days before a new price applies, and it applies from your first renewal after that notice period. If you do not want to pay the new price, cancel before then.
Fees are not refundable
Subscription fees are paid monthly in advance and are not refundable, in whole or in part. This includes a month in which you cancel, stop using Weekly Briefs, or do not use it at all. The only exceptions are where we end the service ourselves (see below) and where the law requires a refund.
Cancelling
You can cancel at any time from your account page, under Manage billing. Cancelling stops future payments. It takes effect at the end of the month you have already paid for, and you keep Professional access until then. After that your account becomes a free Reader account, which you can close by emailing us.
How you may use the briefs
While your subscription is active, we grant you a non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to read Weekly Briefs and use it in your own work, including within your organisation. You may quote or share individual briefs or summaries with colleagues and your board, with attribution to Weekly Briefs.
You may not:
- republish, resell, sublicense or redistribute editions, briefs or feeds outside your organisation;
- share your calendar feed or account with anyone else;
- copy the service systematically, scrape it, or use its content to build a competing product or to train or fine-tune machine learning models.
We and our licensors keep all rights in Weekly Briefs and its content.
What the briefs are, and are not
Weekly Briefs summarises public sources, such as regulators, legislatures and official journals, as at the week shown. It is prepared with the help of automated research and checking tools. It is general information, not legal, regulatory or other professional advice, and it does not take account of your circumstances. Briefs may be incomplete, out of date or wrong, and each one carries a confidence grade for that reason. Check the primary source before you rely on anything, and take advice on your own position.
Changes to the service
We may change what Weekly Briefs covers and how it works, including sectors, jurisdictions and features. If we stop publishing Weekly Briefs altogether, or end your Professional subscription for a reason that is not your fault, we will refund the fee for the part of the current month that remains.
Suspension and ending your account
We may suspend or end your access straight away if you break these terms in a serious way, including by sharing your account, redistributing content or not paying. If we end your access because you broke these terms, no refund is due.
Liability
Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law.
Subject to that, so far as the law allows:
- we are not liable for any decision you make, or do not make, on the basis of Weekly Briefs, or for any loss of profit, revenue, business, opportunity or data, or any indirect or consequential loss;
- our total liability to you in connection with Weekly Briefs in any 12-month period is limited to the subscription fees you paid us in that period.
Your data
We use your email address, your saved settings and your subscription details to run Weekly Briefs, as our privacy policy explains. Stripe processes your payment details; we do not see or store your card number.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. If a change materially affects paying subscribers, we will email you at least 30 days before it applies, and it applies from your first renewal after that. The version in force is the one published here, with the date shown above.
General
These terms are the whole agreement between you and us about Weekly Briefs. You may not transfer your subscription to someone else without our agreement. No one other than you and us has any right to enforce these terms. If a court finds part of these terms unenforceable, the rest still applies.
These terms, and any dispute arising out of or in connection with them, are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction, except that if you are a consumer you may also bring proceedings where you live.
